1930’S Car Display At The Battle of Britain Bunker
Saturday 24 August 2019
Our club was asked if we could provide 1930’s cars to support their “Summer of 1939: End of an Era” day. Eleven club cars turned out and made a lovely display under the full size replica Spitfire and Hurricane planes. Members had a free trip down the 76 steps down to the bunker which houses the only original Battle of Britain RAF Fighter Group Operations Room open to the public. The Operations Room is a series of rooms on 2 levels some 60 feet (18m) underground. The plotting room with its large map table, squadron display boards, balloon and weather states, is exactly how it was when Winston Churchill visited on 15th September 1940.
